We’re so lucky at TRG to meet amazing local wedding suppliers. We’ve become like a family of vendors, who spend many hours together on weekends.
This month we chat to the duo behind Samuel White Photography, Nat and Sam.
Tell us about yourself
We’re a husband and wife team who are raising two little girls between shooting weddings. Our background is in marketing and paparazzi photography. We've been together for ten years and love what we do.
What inspired you to become a photographer?
Sam studied photography in high school and then moved to Sydney to work as a full-time pap. When we lived in the city I would go to work with sam on the weekends to follow celebrities around the eastern suburbs. I only started learning photography 5 years ago, but sam has been working as a full time photographer for ten years.
In a few words, how would you describe your style?
Sam’s style is photojournalistic - he likes getting lots of candid shots as the day unfolds. My style is more traditional, with lots of close-ups of all the little details. Sam likes to keep his editing to a minimum; nice and bright, not dark and moody.
What’s your favourite spot at TRG to shoot?
Sam’s favourite spot at TRG is on the riverbank, and mine is down the driveway.
What is your favourite time of year to shoot at TRG?
We both agreed that autumn is our favourite - with all the bright oranges!
What advice would you give to couples who are a little camera shy?
We have a few tips. If you feel shy we suggest having your portraits without an audience. Sometimes couples feel uncomfortable with their bridal party watching on.
You don't have to keep in position and freeze in a staged photo, you can be in position and talk to one another. Movement is a massive help for getting comfortable during the portraits - a little sway, walking holding hands etc.
Why do you love shooting at TRG?
We have been lucky enough to work at Terara Riverside Gardens a lot over the last four years and the property has evolved so much in that time. Not only is TRG a beautiful garden venue it also has a riverbank which allows couples so many backdrops for their portraits. We love that the onsite accommodation means less driving and more time shooting. We love that the greenhouse acts as a wet weather option for couples.
We have always been treated so kindly by the lovely owners and made feel so welcome. We get so excited when an inquiry lands in our inbox for a wedding at this immaculate property.
